Media Center Specialist
Reports to: Building principal
Supervises: n/a
Qualifications: Master’s in Library Media and Information Technology
Thorough knowledge of media center procedures and equipment
Job Goal: Coordinate all library and media services to students and staff.
Employment Terms: 10 month
FLSA Classification: Non exempt
Evaluation: Annually by building principal

Regular Requirements: Stand for extended periods; sit for extended periods; twist at the neck and trunk; bend at the waist; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; lift/move up to 40 pounds; handle objects and tools with hands to grasp and/or operate equipment; repetitive use of fingers and hands to operate equipment
Occasional Requirements: Lift/move up to 50 pounds
Visual Requirements: Close, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus
Hearing/Speaking Requirements: Adequate to exchange information
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership in the development and evaluation of the district’s media services, including planning, implementation and budgeting.
- Consult with the building principal to schedule library and computer lab times.
- Instruct students on the proper use of print and electronic library and computer lab resources, including developing students’ research, reference and critical thinking skills.
- Conduct an annual inventory, including discarding dated materials.
- Order new materials as needed and in accordance with all district purchasing procedures and in conjunction with individual departments. Systematically update teachers regarding new resources available.
- Coordinate the annual book fair.
- Collaborate with teachers to ensure maximum access to educational media for classroom planning and use.
- Regularly participate in appropriate professional development opportunities.
- Utilize professional behavior in all school related interactions.
- Comply with all federal, state and local laws and board policies and procedures.
- Perform all other tasks as supervisor may assign.
