Media Center Specialist

 

 

Reports to:                  Building principal

 

Supervises:                 n/a

 

Qualifications:           Master’s in Library Media and Information Technology  

                                      Thorough knowledge of media center procedures and equipment

                                               

Job Goal:                     Coordinate all library and media services to students and staff. 

 

Employment Terms: 10 month

 

FLSA Classification: Non exempt

Evaluation:                 Annually by building principal

Regular Requirements:  Stand for extended periods; sit for extended periods; twist at the neck and trunk; bend at the waist; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; lift/move up to 40 pounds; handle objects and tools with hands to grasp and/or operate equipment; repetitive use of fingers and hands to operate equipment

 

Occasional Requirements:  Lift/move up to 50 pounds

 

Visual Requirements:  Close, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus

 

Hearing/Speaking Requirements:  Adequate to exchange information

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Provide leadership in the development and evaluation of the district’s media services, including planning, implementation and budgeting.

 

  1. Consult with the building principal to schedule library and computer lab times.

 

  1. Instruct students on the proper use of print and electronic library and computer lab resources, including developing students’ research, reference and critical thinking skills.

 

  1. Conduct an annual inventory, including discarding dated materials.

 

  1. Order new materials as needed and in accordance with all district purchasing procedures and in conjunction with individual departments. Systematically update teachers regarding new resources available. 

 

  1. Coordinate the annual book fair.

 

  1. Collaborate with teachers to ensure maximum access to educational media for classroom planning and use.

 

  1. Regularly participate in appropriate professional development opportunities.

 

  1. Utilize professional behavior in all school related interactions.

 

  1. Comply with all federal, state and local laws and board policies and procedures.

 

  1. Perform all other tasks as supervisor may assign.
